Weight reduction is a big part of the 2016 BMW M4 GTS coupe’s performance boost, as the car extensively uses carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) materials for both exterior body panels and mechanical bits like the driveshaft. The rear seats are also removed, and the interior door panels are stripped out to shed more pounds. The GTS’ curb weight is lighter than a standard M4 coupe’s by a full 256 lb, which, combined with a stiffer suspension and standard carbon-ceramic brakes, makes for a Nürburgring lap time of 7 minutes 28 seconds. That’s 24 seconds faster than BMW’s claimed time for the standard M4, and other performance figures—3.7 seconds from 0-60 mph, 189 mph top speed—reinforce the GTS’ impressive upgrades.
Visually, the 2016 BMW M4 GTS takes on a more aggressive look, with a body kit that features an active front splitter, a large rear wing, and big multi-spoke wheels that are 19 inches in front and 20 inches in the rear. The taillights use BMW’s new OLED technology for a unique lighting signature. Both the exterior and the interior feature Acid Orange highlights, along with Alcantara trim, a roll bar, a fire extinguisher, and special M sport seats.
We don’t know what the 2016 BMW M4 GTS will cost at this point, but its exclusivity and impressive performance should warrant a price tag above $100,000. Expect to hear more about the ordering process for this special M4 over the next few months as 300 U.S. buyers look to get their hands on this pumped-up BMW M car.
