Another day, another set of news regarding the resurrection of TVR. The historically troubled British sportscar builder has recently made headlines with the planned revival of the brand, with a car designed by the legendary Gordon Murray, and a partnership with Cosworth. Now, TVR announced the initial allotment of the as-of-yet unrevealed TVR model has sold out all 250 pre-sale deposits. Yes, even though none of those people putting down deposits have actually seen the new car.
This is quite a feat, as TVR has been out of business and silent for nearly 10 years now, following the production halt in 2006. TVR has previously announced production would resume in 2008, 2010, and earlier this year, with nothing of note resulting following the announcements. In 2012, TVR announced it would switch from automotive production to creating wind-turbine windmills, with (thankfully) nothing concrete emerging from those strange plans.
The new TVR model, currently codenamed the T37, will adhere to both the classic TVR formula and the traditional sports car layout, with power coming from a beefy, front-mounted Cosworth V-8 engine, mated exclusively to a six-speed manual transmission sending all power to the rear. Those are the only confirmed specs so far on the new sports car.
While we are taking this news with a healthy dose of skepticism, the company seems to have their ducks in a row, with impressive partnerships and a purported 10-year plan involving a multi-level model timeline.
TVR claims all $7,600 deposis for 2017 delivery have been spoken for, with all additional deposits slotted for a 2018 release.
