The Subaru Impreza has already had it pretty good when trying to attract customers within its highly competitive segment. It has always been the unique standout in its class, with the only standard all-wheel drive on all trim levels. While previous generations of the Subaru Impreza were great for the buyer who absolutely needs all-wheel drive, the Impreza often fell short when it came to interior options and appointments. Thanks to a refresh for 2015, that’s no longer the case.

The refreshed 2015 Subaru Impreza addresses its formerly lackluster interior refinement head-on, with higher-quality surface materials and trims spread throughout the cabin. The buzzy nature of the 2.0-liter flat-four has been reigned in, with additional sound deadening and thicker side-glass windows adding stronger noise isolation. Most notably, the 2015 refresh adds the superb touchscreen infotainment system lifted from the 2015 Subaru Outback and 2015 Subaru Legacy as standard, ditching the tiny backup camera screen included up to the 2014 model year.

The 2015 Subaru Impreza also drives better. A quicker steering ratio for the 2015 model year means the Impreza loses the vague turn-in which plagued previous iterations. The Subaru is now livelier in daily driving, feeling noticeably sharper and easier to drive. The Impreza feels confident in nearly every on-road situation, with great highway composure, and good handling when you want to have a bit of fun. Power is unchanged at 148 hp, which is about average for the class, and the continuously variable transmission does a good job delivering the power when you need it while still returning impressive fuel economy.
Before the 2015 model year refresh, the Subaru Impreza was a compact many people bought primarily because it was an affordable new car with all-wheel drive. Now, with the addition of the large and easy-to-use infotainment system, improved steering, and a higher-quality interior, the Impreza becomes an even stronger competitor in the compact-car segment. The fact that the Impreza still comes with standard all-wheel drive is just icing on the cake.
