2016 Mercedes-AMG G65 Coming to the U.S., Priced from $218,285

While Europe got their first taste of the insane AMG-tuned G65 SUV back in 2012, the Mercedes-AMG G65 has been forbidden fruit for U.S. buyers until now. At the 2015 New York auto show, Mercedes announced that the 2016 Mercedes-AMG G65 is coming to the U.S. with a starting price of $218,285.

As the name would suggest, the G65 ditches the 536-hp, twin-turbo 5.5-liter V-8 found in the G63 AMG, and shoehorns in a twin-turbocharged V-12 churning out 621 hp and a monumental 738 lb-ft of torque. This is enough to hustle the 5,700 lb beast from 0-60 in 5.3 seconds, on to an electronically limited top speed of 143 mph.

The sturdy G-Wagen structure ensures that the 2016 Mercedes-AMG G65 is just as capable off-road as it is on-road. As is standard on the rest of the G-Class lineup, the G65 features three individual locking differentials, making it capable of navigating some seriously rough terrain.

Our first taste of the über-SUV comes at quite the cost, with the 2016 Mercedes-AMG stickering at an eye-watering $218,285, including destination. If the G65 cuts a bit above your tax bracket and the base-model G550 is too weak-kneed for you, Mercedes still offers the G63 AMG, which offers the same 0-60 time and off-road capability as the G65 for $80,210 less.
