2017 Fiat 124 Spider Previewed in Colorful Teaser Images

As we inch closer to the official debut of the hotly anticipated Fiat 124 Spider, Fiat is starting to amp up our excitement with teaser images. These photos give us a hint as to the shape of the new Spider, and closely match the design we saw in spy photos of the car.

The teasers depict the top-half of the new 2017 Fiat 124 Spider, presented in colorful pastel line drawings. The silhouette visits both London and Madrid, where the vibrant illustration portrays the little roadster enjoying the scenery with the top down. Notably, we spot a long hood, large oval-shaped headlights, a character line on the car’s doors, and a flat decklid out back.

Underneath the Italian badge, the new Fiat 124 Spider is essentially a new 2016 Mazda Miata, but with a new exterior design and Fiat trimmings for the interior. We have seen the 124 nearly uncovered when spy photographers captured the “Fiata” out for a photoshoot, and we got a glimpse at the Japanese-Italian hybrid in the flesh. Overall, the roadster appears to be softer and more rounded than the Miata, with distinct changes made to differentiate it from its Japanese brother.

Underneath the skin, rumors point to Fiat’s 1.4-liter turbo-four providing the motivation, almost certainly with a manual transmission as standard. There’s no word yet on what type of automatic transmission will be offered, but a dual-clutch unit is a strong possibility.

The 2017 Fiat 124 Spider makes its official debut at the 2015 Los Angeles auto show later this month.
