Audi’s latest string of high-performance models won’t be forbidden fruit to us Americans, as the company announced that the upgraded Audi S8 Plus and the Audi RS 7 Performance are coming to the U.S. Both cars will officially debut at the 2015 Los Angeles auto show next week alongside the 2017 Audi R8 supercar, which is also making its North American debut.
We first heard about the Audi S8 Plus a few months ago when the super-sedan was revealed for the European market. It features plenty of upgrades for the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine, boosting power up to a whopping 605 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque—an improvement of 85 hp over the already-potent Audi S8. The all-wheel-drive sedan also features some black trim to spice up the exterior and different suspension tuning. Top speed is an impressive 189 mph.
The Audi RS 7 Performance is similarly upgraded, as it uses the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 that pushes out 605 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. The standard RS 7 sold in the U.S. makes 560 hp, and the extra power is said to lower 0-60 mph acceleration times to 3.7 seconds. Visual tweaks include a slightly different front fascia and 21-inch wheels.
Expect both of these ultra-fast Audi models to carry significant price premiums over the current Audi S8 and Audi RS 7, which start at $114,900 and $108,900 without destination, respectively, when they arrive next year.
