Bentley Flying Spur Adds V8 S Model at Geneva Auto Show

The Bentley Flying Spur is getting a little sportier thanks to the addition of a V8 S model. Set to debut next month at the Geneva auto show, the Bentley Flying Spur V8 S receives a dose of more power and suspension upgrades.

Compared to the standard Flying Spur V8, the S model’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 makes an extra 20 hp and 15 lb-ft of torque, for totals of 520 hp and 502 lb-ft. The engine and the eight-speed automatic transmission have also been reprogrammed for sportier responses. The result is that the Bentley Flying Spur V8 S rockets to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds, 0.3 second quicker than the standard V8 model. It continues on to a top speed of 190 mph, an improvement of 7 mph compared to the non-S. As in all Flying Spur models, a standard all-wheel-drive system sends power to the road.

The V8 S still won’t outrun the W-12-powered Flying Spur; that model’s 6.0-liter, twin-turbo W-12 makes 617 hp and 590 lb-ft, rocketing the car to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds and on to a top speed of 199 mph.
To help the V8 S handle as well as it accelerates, the Flying Spur receives revisions to its Continuous Damping Control and air suspension, as well as a more lenient stability-control program. Carbon-ceramic brakes are available as an option, with red- or black-painted calipers.

To set it apart from the crowd, the V8 S wears a black front mesh grille and a gloss-black rear diffuser, unique 20-inch wheels (black 21-inch wheels are optional), and piano-black interior trim. Despite the focus on performance, Bentley says the Flying Spur V8 S is no less luxurious than any other model. It still offers all the expensive, hand-made accoutrements and trim pieces of any other Bentley, including the Mulliner options recently announced for other versions of the Flying Spur.
