Fiat 500X Abarth Spied Wearing Alfa Romeo 4C Wheels, Dual Exhaust

When Fiat first brought over the venerable Abarth badge in 2012, we could hardly contain ourselves with excitement. Our love for the scorpione badge has dimmed since then, with the only Abarth to speak of being a hotted-up version of the rapidly-aging Fiat 500. Now, we are once again worked up into a tizzy, as recent spy shots have captured what appears to be the oft-rumored 500X Abarth.

Last summer, we heard reports of Fiat’s new compact crossover potentially receiving the Abarth treatment. Reports pegged power right at 200 hp, with motivation provided by a detuned variant of the 1.75-liter turbocharged four-cylinder found in the Alfa Romeo 4C sports car. Power would likely be sent through all four wheels through an automatic transmission, as the current 500X does not offer a manual transmission if you opt for all-wheel drive.

On this particular test mule spied out for testing in the snow, there are some telltale signs of performance boosts. Bigger red brake calipers and brake rotors hide behind wheels yanked directly from the aforementioned Alfa 4C, along with a dual outlet exhaust.

Look for the 500X Abarth sometime in 2017. For now, take a look at the Fiat 500X Abarth test mule in the photo gallery below.
