Genesis product roadmap – Image via The Korean Car Blog
Hyundai’s new luxury brand Genesis was launched late last year with the promise it will have six distinct models in its lineup by 2020.
Those six models have been confirmed to be a trio of sedans, a pair of SUVs and a coupe, and designing many of them are former Bentley designers Luc Donckerwolke and Sang Yup Lee.
At a recent presentation attended by The Korean Car Blog, Hyundai had a slide with a product roadmap for the Genesis brand.
It reveals Genesis will launch new G70 and G80 sedans by 2017. These will be followed by a mid-size SUV, most likely in 2018, and then towards the end of the decade we will see a smaller SUV launched and a coupe.
The first Genesis model was the Hyundai Equus-replacing G90 due in showrooms any month now. The G70 will be a small sports sedan targeting the BMW 3-Series. It was previewed by Genesis’ New York concept unveiled earlier this year.
The G80 will be an updated version of the current Hyundai Genesis. The updated car has been spotted testing as a prototype.
Not much is known about Genesis’ other products. The SUVs will likely be based on rear-wheel-drive platforms to help differentiate them from similar-sized products from Hyundai.
As for the coupe, it will be a larger, more luxurious successor to the current Hyundai Genesis Coupe. The Vision G concept unveiled last year may hint at what’s to come.
