Hot on the heels of the official unveiling of the 2017 Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe, Mercedes’ Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) branch released sketches of the upcoming race-variant of the new lithe coupe, set to compete in the 2016 DTM season.
In typical DTM fashion, the C63 DTM will feature insanely widened bodywork, including aggressive fender flares and an obscenely large rear wing. All DTM cars have a 500-hp, 4.0-liter V-8 engine, sending power to the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential transmission. The chassis is a carbon fiber monocoque with a directly integrated roll cage.
While the C63 DTM will be visually based on the 2017 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe, the roadgoing car is fundamentally different. The Coupe is also powered by a 4.0-liter V-8, but it’s assisted by two turbochargers. Power for the base C63 comes in at 469 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque, while the C63 S comes with an earth-moving 503 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. Power for both trim levels is sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
With this impressive amount of gumption, the base 2017 Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe charges to 60 in just 3.9 seconds, on its way to an electrically limited top speed of 155 mph. Hop up to the S level, and performance raises to 180-mph top speed and a 0-60 time of just 3.8 seconds.
