Mercedes-Benz Concept IAA Teased Before Frankfurt Debut

Mercedes-Benz is planning a futuristic design concept for the 2015 Frankfurt auto show, and these teaser photos give us an idea of what this concept car might be. Called the Mercedes-Benz Concept IAA, for “Intelligent Aerodynamic Automobile,” this new vehicle looks to be a four-door coupe with a sleek profile to cut through the air.

With Mercedes-Benz’s ever-increasing focus on efficiency, this concept car will likely be an indicator of how the company plans to use aerodynamics and new powertrain technologies to improve its cars fuel economy numbers and emissions going forward. The Concept IAA’s teardrop shape is clearly visible in one teaser photo, displaying streamlined curves and a fastback rear end. The other teaser photo shows the “Concept IAA” badge, along with a small glimpse at a thin taillight strip that looks to use LEDs.

Some sort of electrification or alternative fuel technology is highly likely to be under the hood of the Mercedes-Benz Concept IAA. Previous futuristic Mercedes-Benz concept cars, like the autonomous F 015 Luxury in Motion concept, used an electric drivetrain that sourced its power from a hydrogen fuel cell. Though the Concept IAA is mostly a design study, certain elements from this vehicle may make it into future Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

Look out for the Mercedes-Benz Concept IAA to make its official debut later today at the 2015 Frankfurt auto show.
