Buick declined to say what changes would be applied to the Encore, but we can look across the pond for some hints. Opel said this week that its Mokka X would be updated with a new, more rugged exterior design; interior updates; and new safety tech light LED headlights and improved active-safety technologies. The Mokka X also gains a 1.4-liter direct-injection turbo-four engine in Europe.
Refreshed Buick Encore Coming to New York Auto Show
A refreshed 2017 Buick Encore will make its public debut at the New York auto show, a spokesman confirmed to AUTOMOBILE. The Buick Encore, which is built in South Korea and is related to Europe’s Opel Mokka, was introduced at the 2012 Detroit auto show.
In the U.S., the standard 2016 Buick Encore features a 138-hp, 1.4-liter turbo-four engine, while the Sport Touring trim level already offers the 153-hp direct-injection mill that joins the Opel Mokka X range overseas.
We also expect the Buick’s American sibling, the Chevrolet Trax, to receive an overhaul this year, possibly even later this month at the Chicago auto show. The Trax was introduced at the 2012 Paris auto show and is mechanically identical to the Encore, though it does not yet offer the more powerful direct-injected turbo engine.
Stay tuned for more information on updates to both the Encore and the Trax over the next few months.
