On paper, the GT350 twins and the Camaro are neck-and-neck in a horsepower arms race. From the showroom floor, Ford rates the super-‘Stang’s 5.2-liter flat-plane crank V-8 at 526 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. The Camaro, by comparison, makes 505 hp and 481 lb-ft of torque.
On the dyno, it’s a different story. The GT350 puts down 467 hp to the wheels, and the more hardcore GT350R slaps down a slightly better 471. The Z/28 splits the difference, putting out a very impressive 469 hp from the 7.0-liter pushrod V-8. This means the Camaro has a seven percent difference in power rating at the wheels, while the Mustangs manage an eleven percent difference.Things don’t fare much better for the Mustang in the torque department, with the Z/28 churning out a meaty 438 lb-ft of torque over the Mustang’s 374 lb-ft and 376 lb-ft, respectively.
