Watch Ken Block’s New Gymkhana Ford Escort Vaporize its Rear Tires

Rally driver Ken Block has a penchant for working with his Hoonigan crew to create some truly insane and off-the-wall vehicles. For his most recent Gymkhana viral video, he terrorized Los Angeles in a highly modified, 845 hp all-wheel drive Ford Mustang drift car, a follow-up to the full rally-prepped Fiestas he has been piloting on the world rally stage. Now, Ken is back with another Ford, and it is just as mad and unhinged as we have come to expect.

The new aptly-named Gymkhana Escort began life out as a 1978 Ford Escort RS Mk. II, and was purchased by Ken in 2008 with the intent of competing in tarmac rally events, but since there are very few events in the U.S. in this category, he and his team built on the on-road capabilities of the Escort to create what he calls “the ultimate rear-wheel drive Gymkhana car.”

Under the hood, the unhinged Escort packs a race-spec 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated Millington four-cylinder that spits out 333 hp when spun up to its 9,000 rpm redline. Power is routed to the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox.

To keep the appearance of the Escort in keeping with his traditional Hoonigan style, Ken turned to the maniacs at Rocket Bunny to design an aggressive body kit, with their trademark fender flares. White deep-dish fifteen52 wheels round out the design.

To celebrate the reveal of this fever-dream-on-wheels, Ken hops behind the wheel and does what he does best; an extended burnout that sends smoke and burned rubber billowing across the parking lot.
